The violence it is that behavior that is carried out consciously and deliberately to generate some kind of hurt to the victim Originating in Latin violent, violence can seek to harm physically or emotionally.

Gender , for its part, is a concept with several uses. This time we are interested in highlighting its meaning as the group of beings that share certain characteristics.

The gender violence Therefore, it is the exercise of one sex towards another. The notion usually names violence against woman (that is, the cases in which the victim belongs to the female gender). In this sense, the notions of domestic violence , couple violence and sexist violence .

Specifically, we can establish that there are three clearly differentiated types of gender violence. Thus, in the first place, there is the so-called physical violence that is one in which the woman is a victim of ill-treatment that leaves traces in her appearance. This would be the case of blows, shoves, kicks, bites or all those that are caused by the aggressor when using his hands or objects such as white weapons.

Second, there is what is known as psychological gender violence. This is the one that takes place when men attack women through insults, humiliations, contempt or threats. In this way, the victim is the result of a manipulation that results in her feeling despised, helpless and even guilty of her partner's reactions.

In this sense, we must state that within this type of non-physical violence we can find two clearly differentiated classes. Thus, there is the economic one that is the one that is characterized because the man tries that the female does not have access to work or family money so that she depends on him. And then there is the social one that is the one used by the aggressor so that his victim isolates himself from his environment and does not have contacts with anyone who can open his eyes and see the situation he is in.

Third, in addition to physical and psychological gender violence, there is sexual. In this case, the man uses coercion or the threat to establish unwanted sexual relations by the woman.

It should be noted that, in many cases, the cases of domestic violence They are not usually denounced since the victim may be frightened by living with someone violent or may even feel ashamed about the situation.

Gender violence, however, would include in its broadest sense the physical and emotional abuse that a woman can display against a man . The idea, on the other hand, would not contemplate violent behaviors between people of the same sex.

As violence against women is a historical and cultural problem, certain laws contemplate a positive discrimination regarding this gender, since it is protected over man. There are cases where, even, the violence that a woman exerts on a man is not a crime.

In 1999 , the General Assembly of Un declared to November 25 as International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women . The date recalls the murder of Mirabal sisters , three Dominican activists.
